The annual service to commemorate Scotland’s patron saint, held in Athelstaneford Parish Church on the last Sunday before Advent, was successful and well attended. After the service taken by Rev
Mike Watson, the Saltire was piped through the Churchyard to the Memorial by piper Davie Leckie where it was blessed by the Minister and hoisted by Trustee Fraser Thompson.
Haddington Pipe Band, stationed by the Church gates, then burst into tune, before leading the procession and flag bearers along Main Street. There two horse riders were presented with flags
and rode off with them towards the site of the 9th C battle where the Saltire had first appeared in the sky. Everyone then retired to the Village Hall to enjoy refreshments kindly provided by the ladies
of Athelstaneford/Whitekirk Session.
